If you want to make sure that you start every morning with the best possible skin, you need to prepare the night before! If you are following a meal plan as part of a new healthy diet, you will plan your meals and snacks ahead so that you know you have everything you need. Planning ahead also helps you stay on track with your regime and the same applies to looking after your skin. Take a little time to look after your skincare before you turn in for the night and you’ll get a great glow when you wake the following morning.

Take It Off Before Bed

It’s the first rule of skincare, you will have heard it before but we’re going to tell you again – you must always cleanse your skin properly before you go to sleep. There are no excuses, even if you’re tired or have had the worst day, that few minutes you spend on taking off your make up and cleaning your skin will make all the difference in the morning. Take off your make up, or just cleanse off the dirt and gunk that will have accumulated during the day. Use a gentle cleansing product – you can ask your professional esthetician about what products suit your skin. Tone properly and then follow with a good night cream or moisturizer. This will ensure your skin is absolutely clean and fresh and moisture replenished. Using a toner shouldn’t dry your skin out, if you find it too drying, again you can ask your esthetician for advice.

Get A Good Night’s Sleep

Your skin cells grow faster during deep sleep as your body regenerates and repairs itself, so it makes sense to put a little effort into your pre-bedtime skincare routine to support this overnight regrowth. Getting a good night’s sleep is another factor in getting glowing, healthy skin so try not to leave it too late before you call it a night. The occasional night out or Netflix binge watching session won’t do your skin any harm, but if you get into the habit of late nights and don’t get enough sleep, it will start to show on your face very quickly. There are some great products designed to be used at night – some you can leave on while you sleep like rich night creams, anti-aging serums and nourishing facial oils. Don’t let things get to that stage; look after yourself and arrange some me-time so that you feel relaxed and happy, and other people’s demands don’t wear you out so much. You can also say no to things if you really don’t want to do them, or just don’t have time.

Yes, we know that it’s just easier sometimes to give in, let your own needs slide and forget the little things that we enjoy when life gets busy. When we’re overwhelmed, taking time out to do something fun seems frivolous and like a luxury. Stop and think about it the next time you’re tempted to work through lunch instead of making your gym or hair appointment though; self-care actually makes you more productive and less stressed.

– Self-care stops you from getting burned out. Pushing yourself to the point where you’re exhausted and can’t take one more demand isn’t good for anyone, and if you make a point of taking care of yourself before it gets that bad, you’ll avoid a lot of potential stress in the future.

– Self-care is a great stress reducer. We all need a little bit of stress to get things done sometimes, but too much will create havoc on your mind and your body. Doing nice things that you enjoy, and looking out for your own wellbeing stops the effects of stress from taking over, making you more productive and much nicer to be around.

Whether it’s the luxury of a full spa day or just an hour’s walking or session at the gym, getting away from something that has you really stuck can help you to work out what it is that needs to be done. Eat Right for Healthy Skin

Have you ever noticed how that when we have an illness, or imbalance in the health of our body, we look for ways to heal it using diet, supplements and ultimately medication – but when we have issues with the largest organ of our body – our skin – the temptation is to try and fix it using creams, oils and lotion that we just apply topically? It’s easy to forget that our skin needs to be fed properly in order to function, and needs good quality nutrition if it’s to look and feel its best. Cold feet? Here are a few exercises to warm you up!

Cold feet are one of the miseries of winter, it’s easy to keep your body warm but hands and feet tend to get colder and stay colder much faster. If you’re plagued with frozen cold toes, once you’ve ruled out any medical conditions, try these moves to take the chill off.

Clapping your feet on the floor
Sit on a chair or the floor and slap the floor with the bottoms of your feet. Change the rhythm from slow to fast and keep going for at least five minutes to get the blood circulating.

Foot rotation
Sit down in a comfortable position and lift your foot up off the floor. Start by rotating clockwise and then anti-clockwise position 10-20 times. This should also get the blood moving, warming your toes up for you.

Practice picking things up with your feet
Sit down and lay a pencil or something similar on the floor at your feet. Try to pick it up with your left foot, and then your right foot. Repeat several times until you feel things begin to warm up.

Toes to heels
Stand up on the tip of your toes for about a minute and then slowly drop back down to your heels. Repeat up to ten times until you start to feel a bit warmer…

Do it! Delegate it! Dump it! for Self-Care

Do you have enough time for your self care? Probably not! I have a few tips to help you find you a little more time for relaxing and self care. These are from the Do it! Delegate it! Dump it! System.

Do it: anything that takes 5 minutes or less just DO IT and forget about it. Write the check, put it away, make the quick call, or reply to the email. There, it’s done and off your list and out of your mind.

Delegate it: As you are going through your list of things that need to get done, ask yourself, can someone else do this? Can I hire someone to do this? Pay your kid some extra chore money?

Asking for help isn’t always easy, but there is no reason why other family members can’t cook dinner or put a kid to bed to give you some much needed time alone.

Sometimes when you ask for help you will be met with some resistance, people don’t really like change! Hopefully with some honest communication you will be able to get a few things off your plate.  Hiring a house cleaner is a wonderful gift that you can give yourself. Talk about a stress reducer!

Dump it! Some things just don’t need to get done. I don’t match socks, if you want socks at my house go dig through the basket. ***Quite often I change my plan to get stuff off my list. Is there an easier way to get the same result? Party plans getting stressful? Pick up some store made food. If I make too many plans for the weekend, I have no problem cancelling because I need at home time. My friends understand. I never bail on my commitments, like volunteer work, but I will cancel other plans if I’m overly stressed. When stress piles up, start dumping, and go get a massage!

It sounds like a joke, doesn’t it? You rarely hear the words ‘mood boosting’ and ‘sofa’ together, but after a long hard day, too many of us collapse onto our sofas, exhausted or in a bad mood from whatever stresses our busy day has handed us.
Let’s face it, once you’re down, the chances of you getting up are slim. So let’s take a look at some easy and quick things we can do to revive ourselves.

  1. Put on some upbeat music. Nothing lifts a bad mood as fast as hearing Pharrell’s ‘Happy” blasting through your speakers. Whatever kind of music that lifts you up will do!
  2. Get in touch with your inner flexible child and try out some couch friendly yoga like a good arm stretch. Moving your body is proven to improve your mood.
  3. Laugh and smile. It sounds cliché, but a good chuckle can really lift your spirits. Find your funny bone and expose it to as many YouTube videos about cats, babies, cats and babies, babies with cats and dogs and anything else that will leave you clutching your sides and gasping for air.
  4. Let it out. Sometimes it’s as simple as recapping your frustrations to a loved one. Talk it out and then, let it go!
  5. Open up your curtains and windows, let the sun in and count your blessings. Often we are focused on the negatives in our lives. Retrain your mind to look for the positives and contemplate about all the things in your life that you are blessed with.

So just remember the next time you’re slumped on your sofa, cursing the TV for flooding your screen with reality shows; there are so many other options that you can choose from that will leave you feeling great. And who knows, you may feel revitalized enough to get up and go!
